The happy connect

Mr J. S. Sarma (left) and Mr Nripendra Misra.

Apart from great bytes and networking, the telecom conference organised by Assocham this week also brought together two big honchos of the telecom sector. For the first time in more than three years, the Secretary to the Department of Telecom (DoT) and the Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) were together on a public platform at the Assocham event.

Maybe an opportunity did not come their way or probably it was due to the growing disconnect between the two but it is a fact that the former TRAI chairman, Mr Pradip Baijal, and the DoT Secretary, Mr J. S. Sarma, had never shared a platform in public, though they met behind closed doors a number of times. Seeing the new TRAI chief, Mr Nripendra Misra, and Mr Sarma on the same dais, thumping each other on the back, it seems happy days are here again for the two telecom bodies.
