Shipping Government - Policy Karnataka to develop minor ports Our Bureau
Mangalore , April 20 The Karnataka Government is determined to develop minor ports in the State, according to Mr B. Nagaraja Shetty, Minister for Fisheries. Presiding over the quarterly review meeting of the KDP (Karnataka Developmental Programme) in Mangalore on Thursday, Mr Shetty said the State would follow the Gujarat model in the development of minor ports. The thrust is to generate more income from minor ports along coastal Karnataka. Stating that there was no problem of funds to develop minor ports, he said good officials were needed to carry out these works. Some of the important minor ports in Karnataka are Old Mangalore, Gangolli, Malpe, Hejmadi, Belekeri and Karwar. Of the Rs 8.32 crore estimated for the development of Gangolli harbour, works to the tune of Rs 6.3 crore have been completed.
