Mumbai , April 20

Chennai-based logistics solutions provider eLogistics has placed an order for one lakh vehicle tracking devices with Avalon Technologies, a 100 per cent EOU and a fully-owned subsidiary of Sienna Corporation of the US.

The tracking devices will be embedded with special software and sensors designed by eLogistics to convert them into e-tracking devices, which are being increasingly used for better logistics management in India.

Avalon will be delivering the tracking devices, valued at Rs 70 crore, in the current fiscal. "We are confident of marketing the one lakh e-trackers, with the demand for such equipment now being five million pieces in India," says Ms Mythili Parthasarty, Vice-President (Finance) of eLogistics.

The company came out with its GSM-based eTrack device in 2002-end, with initial funding from the Technology Development Board of the Government of India. Since then, eTrack devices have been installed in over 5,000 trucks, she said, adding the cost of these devices range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 each.

Avalon Technologies will take up full service contract manufacturing of the eTrack suite of GSM and GSM-plus-GPS tracking devices at their manufacturing facility for printed circuit board assemblies in Chennai. The company will be involved in manufacturing, quality control, and testing of the eLogistics suite of tracking devices.
