Tea Low volume continues at Coonoor tea auctions P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , April 20 For the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) auctions scheduled to be held this week, the volume catalogued continues to be low. In nine auctions so far, the volume had been more than the 8.58 lakh kgs being offered now, but only in two auctions, the volume had exceeded 10 lakh kgs. In the corresponding sale last year, as much as 12.12 lakh kgs were offered. The volume of leaf grade alone totalled 8.8 lakh kgs more than the combined volume of leaf and dust this week.
HIGHEST IN A MONTH
Of the 8.58 lakh kgs, as much as 6.17 lakh kgs belong to the leaf grades, while the remaining 2.41 lakh kgs belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 7.93 lakh kgs belong to the CTC variety and the remaining 0.65 lakh kgs belong to the orthodox variety. The volume, however, is the highest for a month now and is marginally higher than 8.19 lakh kgs offered last week. Despite the volume remaining low, week-to-week prices have been either flat or down recently because of the demand being inadequate. to activate higher bids. Upcountry buyers contend that the fresh season arrivals from the North East are of higher quality and hence, they are required to buy in Coonoor only to cover short volumes for blends.
