AIG installs narrow band imaging system

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , April 21

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has opened an NBI (narrow band imaging) system at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG).

The system helps identify gastrointestinal cancers at a very early stage and increase chances of a cure. "People with family history of these cancers would benefit. They can be treated as outpatients," Dr M. Tandon, a senior doctor at the hospital, said.

Dr D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG, told presspersons later that this was the first of its kind installation in the entire SAARC region.

The hospital also acquired advanced `endoscopic ultrasound scan' that combined endoscopy with ultrasound. This would help in identifying early gastrointestinal mucosal and pancreatic cancers before they spread to other organs.
