Visakhapatnam , April 21

The Tandava Co-operative Sugar Factory at Payakaraopeta in Visakhapatnam district is to be modernised at a cost of Rs 36 crore over the next 18 months.

According to Mr T.P. Sivarama Prasad, Managing Director, the crushing capacity will be increased from 1,750 tonnes per day to 2,500 tonnes per day. Besides, the capacity of the co-generation plant will be doubled from 3 MW to 6.28 MW.

He said the entire amount required for modernisation would be obtained as loan from the State Government and the financial institutions. New equipment would be procured for enhancing the crushing capacity.

Mr Prasad said a technical committee had visited the factory last year and recommended upgradation. At present, the power generated by the factory was being used internally. The additional power generated in the future would be sold, he added.

During the current crushing season, he said, the factory had crushed 2.21 lakh tonnes in 145 days and it could earn Rs 6 crore of profit last year. He added that there would be no paucity of cane even after the expansion.
