The Orissa Government has issued reconnaissance permits to as many as 15 companies to explore availability of diamond, gold, nickel, copper, lead, zinc and precious stones deposits in the State. The area for exploration of the rich mineral resources was spread over 25091.291 sq. km, according to an official release.

The State Government is making efforts to formulate a comprehensive mining policy of its own to ensure scientific exploration and proper utilisation of the mineral resources found in different parts of the State, the release said.
