Tea Prices fall at Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
Kochi , April 23 The Kochi tea auction, which started on a firm note lost ground, as the auction progressed and quality teas registered declines. Internal buyers were active at the prevailing levels and exporters operated on the bolder and finer varieties within lower limits. There was 10,84,000 kg of dust on offer at the auction. The best dust varieties lost Rs 4-5, while medium varieties shed Rs 2-3, even as poorer varieties closed at last weeks' levels. Orthodox dust and high grown varieties continued to remain firm, as medium varieties were quoted lower. Best CTC dust quoted between Rs 61-66, medium CTC at Rs 50-58 and below medium ranged between Rs 45-48. High grown BOPD was quoted between Rs 75-119 and medium BOPD ranged from Rs 35-37. There was some interest in the leaf tea sale from inter-State buyers and some exporters. High grown varieties, medium orthodox and brokens remained firm. There was 3,88,000 kg on offer at the auction. Best Nilgiri brokens fetched Rs 66-72, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 49-55, plain orthodox was at Rs 45-48, best CTC leaf fetched Rs 47-53 and medium CTC was at Rs 40-42.
