FCO amendment notified in Gazette

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, April 23

Taking a cue from a legislation made by the Andhra Pradesh Government on bio and organic fertilisers last year, the Union Government has brought in an amendment to the Fertiliser Control Order (FCO). The Union Government has notified the amendment in the Gazette by including bio and organic fertilisers in the FCO. The amendment now requires manufacturers of these fertilisers to get licences to sell or market their products.

The amendment provided for stringent punishments, including jail up to seven years and fine. "The deadline for registration is May 31. The amended order will be strictly enforced in the State with effect from June 1," Ms Poonam Malakondaiah, Commissioner for Agriculture (Andhra Pradesh Government), has said.
