Orissa Govt rehabilitation policy

Our Bureau

Bhubaneswar, April 23

The Orissa Government on Saturday announced the formulation of a new resettlement and rehabilitation policy to deal with the problem of displacement by promising better compensation for families to be displaced by various projects. The new policy named the Orissa Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policy, 2006, promises three different packages for those displaced by industrial and mining projects, irrigation and forest projects, and linear projects such as highways. The draft policy was approved by the State Cabinet after incorporation of many additional benefits for the families facing displacement by various industries in different parts of the State. According to the policy, displaced families would be given house building assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh instead of the earlier provision of Rs 50,000. Non-BPL families will also get the resettlement and rehabilitation benefits.
