International convention centre to host ADB AGM

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , April 24

The Hyderabad International Convention Centre, claimed to be the country's first purpose-built convention facility, is to host the Asian Development Bank's 39th annual general meeting (AGM) from May 3 to 6.

The meeting will be attended by the financial think-tank of Asia, including finance and economic planning ministers, senior government officials, representatives of the multilateral development bank community, investment bankers and representatives of non-government organisations.

Prominent among the guests are the ADB President, Mr Haruhiko Kuroda, and the Governors of 66 Reserve Banks.

The Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, will chair the session, while the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will inaugurate the opening session.

Addressing newspersons prior to hosting the international event, the convention centre's General Manager, Mr Philip Logan, said the centre has employed state-of-the-art technology in all aspects, making it a natural choice for international events like the ADB meet.

"The centre is fully equipped to handle an international event of this kind." The convention facility has six language interpretation booths with thousands of wireless IR receivers with headphones for reception of simultaneous language interpretation, an imperative requirement for conventions of this kind, Mr Logan said.

The facility is located in a 15-acre campus in the heart of the business hub of the city.

Spread over 2,91,000 square feet of primary meeting space and 2,50,000 square feet of pre-function area, it can accommodate 5,000 people.
