Plans to extend high-octane petrol sales

New Delhi , April 24

State-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) plans to add 10 `in and out' convenience stores in New Delhi by the end of the current financial year (2006-07) as part of its retail outlet expansion plan. This will take the total number of such stores to 41.

According to Mr Arjun Hira, General Manager Marketing, North India, BPCL also plans to extend its high-octane petrol, Speed 97, for high-end cars in 10 more petrol retail outlets, taking the total number to 50 outlets from 40 by the end of the current fiscal.

At a function to announce the winners of the `win free petrol for a year' scheme, here on Monday, Mr Hira said BPCL had introduced high-octane petrol for high performance cars, which were performing below par due to non-availability of better fuel.

Speed 97 is at present available in six big cities, and 21 more cities are being targeted for this fuel, Mr Hira added. In North India, the fuel will soon be introduced in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Chandigarh, he said. The product is costlier by Rs 8 at Rs 55 a litre compared to the price of regular petrol.

Speed 97 is a blend of high-octane petrol and contains multi-functional additives, enabling high performance vehicles to remove harmful deposits from the components, said Mr Hira.

BPCL has over 6,600 retail outlets across the country with over 1.6 million petro-card members and a convenience store network of 580 across more than 120 cities. To win the confidence of its customers, the company had introduced the `win free petrol for a year scheme' under which the company proposed to give a year's supply of petrol free as the mega prize. The consumer was required to spend just Rs 250 at a Bharat Petroleum petrol pump to be eligible for the prize.
