Chennai, April 25

Lubricants manufacturer Gulf Oil Ltd and truck maker Ashok Leyland on Monday announced launch of co-branded lubricants for trucks. Officials of Gulf Oil said at a press conference that the lubricants, specially made for Ashok Leyland's trucks, have a longer life — they need to be changed only after 36,000 km of running. The initiative covers a range of 12 different grades of engine oils, transmission oils, greases, brake fluids, power steering fluid and hydraulic oil, Gulf Oil's Head-Lubes, Mr N.C. Sekharan, said.

Gulf oil has a 9 per cent share in the 700,000-tonne-per-year Indian market for automotive lubricants. Later, answering a question, Mr Sekharan said that Gulf Oil would consider setting up a blending plant in Tamil Nadu, once the State introduced VAT.
