Petroleum States - Maharashtra Maharashtra sets up nodal agency for gas distribution Rahul Wadke
Mumbai , April 27 The Maharashtra Government has set up a nodal agency for distributing natural gas in the State. Called the Maharashtra Industrial Gas Transmission Company Ltd (MIGTCL), the gas grid would primarily cater to industrial consumers, said Mr Hasmukh Shah, Chairman, State Advisory Committee for Natural Gas, Maharashtra. MIGTCL is being set up under the aegis of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. At present, Gujarat is the only State in the country having a full-fledged gas grid network of about 450 km. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Shah said MIDC has taken a lead role in setting up the grid as it has the right of use in most of the industrial areas in Maharashtra. Some of the players expected to bring gas into the State are GAIL, Reliance and Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. Mr Shah said the Reliance pipeline coming from the Godavari gas field would enter the State at Sholapur and would be laid till Dhulia, which would join with the gas grid in Gujarat. The GAIL Dahej-Uran pipeline would be extended to Ratnagiri and then onwards to Pune. Sources in the State Government said that MIDC would provide gas primarily to industrial consumers in about 100 industrial estates out of the 256 industrial estates run by them.
