G. Gurumurthy

The German co is expected to bring 50 new buyers from EU

Since Tirupur exporters cater to all segments including fashion and high-value garments of all age group, more bulk orders are expected this year as leading brands and chain stories source garments from Tirupur.

Coimbatore , April 27

India Knit Fair Association (IKFA), organisers of the annual knit fair events in the hosiery exporting town of Tirupur, has roped in Prexma Consulting, the German company specialised in developing tailor made marketing solution, for promoting the IKFA's 2006 knit fair edition to be held next month in Tirupur.

Prexma Consulting has been entrusted by IKFA with the task of bringing in the targeted new garment buyers/buying companies to the 22nd edition of the knitwear exhibition, `IKF 2006', to be held from May 10 and 12.

Tirupur woos

Already the Tirupur annual knitwear exhibition is widely remembered as a trade itinerary among the global garment buying houses/buyers and, hence, attracts an average 40/50 buyers every year to the fair events. The 2005 fair attracted about 70 buyers/buying houses agents. `But this time, the fair organisers are keen that a higher number of buyers from Europe are to be motivated and these buyers/their companies should be the first time visitors to the Tirupur fair, hence, the decision to engage Prexma Consulting', sources in the IKFA said.

Promoters

Prexma as an event management/public relations consultants does also provide technology including the Internet marketing and exhibition promotion and it is also involved in promotion of the India International Garment Fair events for 2006.

The German consultants are expected to bring over 50 new buyers from the European Union countries to the next month's Tirupur fair which will focus on the knitted garments for the 2007 summer/spring collections.

Upgrading offered

The overseas consultancy firm has offered to upgrade the IKF to a boutique show. Fashion garment producers from Mumbai, Delhi, Ludhiana, Bangalore and Chennai besides those from Tirupur are to participate to display the latest range of garment collections which will include among other things, cardigans, ensambles, golfline polo-shirts, leggings, washed-look garments and swim wears besides the basics.

Advantage India

Unveiling the details of the next month's fair, IKFA has said the lifting of the quantitative restriction on textile and clothing from 2005 has led to a shift in the behaviour of the US market, which has turned favourable to import of Indian garments.

The deflection of trade from China to India in apparel sector is evident which has resulted in higher growth in the export of garments from Tirupur.

It said since Tirupur exporters cater to all segments including fashion and high value garments of all age group, more bulk orders are expected this year as leading brands and chain stories source garments from Tirupur.

The three-day fair event to be preceded by a knitwear export symposium on May 9, will be inaugurated by the Secretary, Union Ministry of Textiles, Mr D.P. Singh.
