Chittagong-Singapore feeder service

Korean shipping giant, Hanjin Shipping, in partnership with Singapore-based Sea Consortium, has launched a dedicated feeder service between Chittagong and Singapore. There will be sailings every fourth day, the port rotation being Singapore-Port Klang-Chittagong-Singapore.

In all five vessels, capacity ranging from 360 to 660 TEUs, are being deployed. But the service has been launched at a time when the congestion at Chittagong port has left a number of vessels waiting at the outer anchorage of the port. Till a few days ago, as many as 21 vessels were waiting, 15 of them container vessels. The congestion is believed to have been caused by the recent spurt in imports and exports, with the result the number of feeder services between Singapore and Chittagong has risen to 47 from the earlier 29.
