Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports STPI plans incubation centres for small units Our Bureau
Hyderabad , April 30 The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), which has 49 centres, has breached the magical Rs 1,00,000-crore IT exports mark this year recording Rs 1,00,809 crore, wherein Bangalore and Hyderabad account for about 50 per cent of overall exports. Addressing a press conference here, the Director of STPI, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Mr B.V. Naidu, said that Karnataka is likely to post more than Rs 37,000 crore in exports, followed by Maharashtra (Rs 15,500 crore), Tamil Nadu (Rs 13,900 crore) and Andhra Pradesh (Rs 12,573 crore). Mr Naidu said STPI was in the process of establishing an incubation centre in association with the TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) and the ISA (Indian Semiconductor Industry), in Bangalore to focus on this emerging area. This would possibly be followed with another centre in Hyderabad. "One aspect that has come out glaringly was that large companies continue to do well and small and medium sized companies facing tough times. We plan to lay special thrust on the SMEs and are in the process of creating incubation centres in various cities to assist small companies' transition to the next league," Mr Naidu said. There is growing synergy between Hyderabad and Bangalore, a fact that comes out with more companies expanding, he said. Andhra Pradesh, which recorded IT exports of Rs 12,521 crore, which reflects a 51 per cent growth over last year, has indicated that it would hit the $4 billion mark (Rs 18,000 crore) in IT exports this year. The State Secretary IT&C, Mrs Ratna Prabha, said the State had embarked on a plan to consolidate on this growth and is in the process of creating additional infrastructure
