Nalco Q4 net profit up 40 pc

The National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) has reported profit after tax of Rs 608.02 crore for the quarter ending March 31, registering an increase of 40 per cent over Rs 434.24 crore achieved in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

According to a press release issued here on Saturday, the company closed the financial year (2005-2006) with the highest-ever net profit of Rs 1,564.65 crore (Rs 1,234.84 crore), an increase of 27 per cent.

According to the unaudited results taken on record at a meeting of the board of directors in New Delhi on Saturday, the company also reported the highest sales turnover of Rs 5,324.20 crore (Rs 4,439.99 crore).

The export earnings were Rs 2,269.40 crore (Rs 2,200.25 crore).

Alumina production increased to 15.90 lakh tonnes (15.75 lakh tonnes), with the company achieving 101 per cent capacity utilisation. Cast metal production jumped to 3,58,954 tonnes (3,38,483 tonnes).

On the marketing front, the company recorded the highest-ever metal sale of 3,53,843 tonnes including domestic metal sales of 2,58,096 tonnes, as compared to 3,38,527 tonnes and 2,05,797 tonnes respectively in the previous year.

The company's Rs 4,091-crore expansion programmeis in full swing, says the release. The project will raise the bauxite mine capacity from 48 lakh tonnes to 63 lakh tonnes, alumina capacity from 15.75-21 lakh tonnes and aluminium production capacity from 3.45-4.60 lakh tonnes, and captive power generation capacity from 720 MWs to 1,200 MWs.
