Bangalore to host travel mart in July

The 25th edition of the India International Travel Mart (IITM) is scheduled to be held here from July 15-17.

The event will be held in the background of leading European and Asian countries stepping up their campaign to woo Indian tourists. A similar mart will he held in Chennai from July 21-23, Mumbai (September 2-4 ), Pune (December 2-4 ) and Hyderabad (December 8-10 ).

Indian outbound tourism is growing at an estimated 20 per cent with about 6.5 million people having visited various international destinations last year.

This year the figure was expected to reach eight million said Mr Rohit Hangal, Director, IITM.

Mr Hangal said the forthcoming event is expected attract 200 participants from more than 15 countries, which includes prominent international tourism boards such as Visit Britain, Switzerland Tourism, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Board, South Africa Tourism, Dubai Tourism and Sri Lankan Tourism.

Mr Hangal said India should step up efforts to attract more tourists than the mere 3.5 million that arrived here last year.

For a country with such rich diversity, concerted efforts should be made focus on tourism with sound marketing strategy to attract more leisure tourists.

Tourism should get better focus and marketing strategy to showcase a large number of destinations with adequate infrastructure at affordable prices, he said.
