VAT burden

Over the years, the Governments at the State and the Centre have been burdening the common man by increasing one tax or the other. They have led people to believe that VAT would benefit them. This is not the case; it has only added to the Government's coffers.

There has been a multi-fold rise in the prices of all commodities, including vegetables, pulses and cereals.

The government's claims that inflation has come down to 3.4 per cent seem questionable. The introduction of VAT, and increase in the service tax and education cess is costing us dear. There has been no corresponding increase in the salaries.
