The Hindu Business Line : Infosys to expand Mysore training centre

In a bid to further enhance its employee training capabilities, Infosys plans to set up a new 9,000 seat training centre in Mysore this year, said Mr Mohandas Pai.

The company had set up a 4,500-seat training centre in Mysore sometime ago. This is largest such facility in the world.

With this new facility, Infosys would be able to train about 13,500 people at any one time. Infosys normally conducts 14 weeks training for new student it hires.

Infosys is also setting up a 7,750-room facility for accommodating the trainees, Mr Pai said adding the company expected to invest $150 million in expanding the facility.

The new facility, set to come up in the existing 330 acres campus at Mysore, would be ready in 12 months.

With three sessions a year, the company could train close to 40,000 employees annually, he said. Infosys expects to hire some 25,000 employees during the current financial year, of which 60-65 per cent were likely to be freshers.

As of March 31, 2006, Infosys employed 181 faculty members in its training division, including 109 with doctorate or masters degrees. The faculty conducts integrated training for new employees, as well as approximately 240 different two-week continuing education courses in technology at different levels and management skills for all employees per annum.

Some of the very highly specialised programs are outsourced to institutions of high repute on a selective basis.
