Info-Tech - Security SMBs to spend $134 m on security this year Ambar Singh Roy
Kolkata , May 2 Small and medium businesses (SMBs) in the country will invest $134 million on infotech security in 2006, according to a study conducted by the New York-headquartered Access Markets International (AMI) Partners, Inc. According to the study, buoyed by the adoption of sophisticated enterprise applications and advanced storage solutions, Indian SMBs would spend nearly $134 million on their IT security solutions in2006. This would mark an increase of 53 per cent over 2005, when infotech spending went up by 63 per cent over 2004.
Focal point
The AMI Partners' study states that IT security has emerged as a focal point for SMBs to embrace the benefits of Internet access, network connectivity and increased storage capacity. Faced with possible productivity losses on account of online viruses, data security has assumed considerable significance for Indian SMBs. However, lack of awareness among Indian SMBs was an important factor hindering the widespread use of security solutions. Despite this, internal and external factors were driving the desire among SMBs to adopt IT security solutions.
