New container service soon

A new container service is being launched shortly to connect three of the country's west coast ports with some West Asian ports on the one hand and Far Eastern ports on the other.

Orient Overseas Container Line in partnership with Simatech Shipping proposes to start a new weekly service from May 10, to be known as Gulf-India-Straits service, linking Singapore/Malaysia with Jebel Ali and Bandar Abbas via India and Pakistan.

The service will be operated with four vessels of 1,000-TEU capacity each and the port rotation will be: Singapore-Pasir Gudang-Port Kelang-Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (Jawaharlal Nehru port)-Karachi-Jebel Ali-Bandar Abbas-Jebel Ali-Mundra-Cochin-Singapore on a 28-day rotation, according to shipping industry sources.
