Precious metals suffer setback

Both the precious metals fell sharply on the local bullion market on Thursday mainly due to fresh offerings by local traders and weak overseas market.

Standard gold prices were down Rs 110 to end at Rs 9,730 per 10 gm from the previous close of Rs 9,840. Pure gold (99.99) also fell sharply by Rs 105 to Rs 9,785 from the previous close of Rs 9,890.

Silver (.999 fineness) price was down Rs 730 and settled at Rs 20,705 from the previous close of Rs 21,435 a kg.

Chennai: Bar silver: Rs 20,675; retail silver (per gm): Rs 22.10; Standard gold: Rs 9,835; retail ornament gold (22 carat per gm): Rs 911.

Kolkata: Silver ready: Rs 20,100; Gold ready: Rs 9,900.
