IN THE GRIPS OF THE BEARS:A warehouse worker checking pepper stocks at a godown in Adimali, Kerala. Pepper prices continue to rule low despite an 8 per cent drop in production from 3,23,480 tonnes in 2004 to 2,94.770 tonnes in 2005. A bearish sentiment has gripped the market that the premium Malabar Gold variety has declined to Rs 6,800 a quintal from over Rs 7,000 at the start of the year.
