Airlines Marketing - Promotions & Offers Turkish Air to fly to Mumbai from tomorrow Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , May 4 In an attempt to woo not only Indian tourists but also Bollywood film crews, the Turkish Airlines, THY, is starting a three times-a-week flight on the Mumbai-Istanbul route from May 6 this year. "We will soon have an introductory return fare of Rs 12,000 for those wanting to travel to Turkey from Mumbai. A passenger wanting to travel from Turkey to other parts of Europe should have a little trouble as the airline is also offering attractive side trips for about Rs 9,000," said the airline Sales and Marketing Manager, Mr Parmod Sahni.
Wooing Bollywood
With the launch of the Mumbai operations, the airline is hoping that Bollywood filmmakers would be tempted to consider filming in Turkey. "We are trying to get a couple of big producers and some celebrities to visit. We are very keen to invite Mr Amitabh Bachchan. Besides, we have also spoken to Mr Suniel Shetty," said Mr Sahni. The interest in the Indian market about Turkey is already growing with the Turkish Embassy issuing more than 14,000 visas last year up from about 8,000 the previous year. Apart from general visitors, Turkey is also promoting itself as a Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibition destination. "Torrent, has already committed to take more than 1,600 doctors to Turkey till June this year," airline officials said. The airline that currently operates four weekly flights from Delhi to Istanbul is keen to start operating flights to Chennai also. "We are keen to increase flights to Mumbai and Delhi apart from operating to Chennai. However, we will have to wait till the next rounds of bilateral air services talks are held as currently we are utilising our entire bilateral entitlement," said Mr Sahni.
