Off-shore Development US firm wants space here to write code for implant Our Bureau
Pune , May 5 Looking at the new trends in the information technology sector, Mr Venugopal said the STPI has been approached by a US-based company for setting up a software centre in Pune. The Pune centre would be writing the code for the testing equipment for medical implant for the human heart. "According to the company, they are the only players in the global market who are into this niche area,'' he said. He said a study was being conducted for quality testing of the product as it is a miniature item, which would be implanted into the human body. He said approval has to be obtained and the software would be written in Pune and sent back to the parent company in the US that would then manufacture and sell the product. He said the centre is expected to be set up within a month or two. Mr Venugopal also noted that many Indian nationals working in smaller firms on the foreign shores are now coming back to India. "The parent firms are awarding contracts to these people and have a confidence in them that their service would be up to the mark and work better on the economics'', he said. He added that IT related activity was also witnessing a boom and many small companies from across the globe were setting up shop in Pune.
