Letters Indian agriculture
This is with reference to "Agriculture: Flowering China withering India," (Business Line, April 25). The article highlights the present gloomy picture of Indian agriculture. A country that once found it difficult to store surplus stock of wheat is now importing wheat. The root causes, namely, low productivity, inertia of agricultural scientists and the `top-down approach,' have to be probed and remedies prescribed without any delay to achieve a ten per cent plus GDP growth. Our Krishi Bhavans and Krishi Vijyan Kendras have to awaken from their deep slumber. Better seeds and seedlings are the first priority. Should China show us the way? K. J. Kurian Thodupuzha
