Bangalore , May 9

Hewlett-Packard has said that it has achieved leading position in the $9-billion high-performance computing (HPC) market worldwide. HP took the No. 1 position with more than 31 per cent market share, according to 2005 figures released by research firm IDC.

"We have seen triple-digit growth in our HPC business in India in 2005, which is definitely more than the computer industry at large," said Mr Faisal M. Paul, Country Manager (HPC & Linux-OpenSource), in India.

"In India, we are experiencing a good demand & acceptability of HP's unified cluster portfolio - which is a user-configured package of hardware, software and services and provides a common implementation across multiple operating systems and servers based on industry-standard processors."

The Computational Mathematical Laboratory at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research uses a HPC cluster for complex hardware system design, microelectronics, and nanotechnology. The Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology uses HPC to complete large, complex simulation experiments such as molecular interactions and dynamics.
