GSM subscriber base grows 2.93 m in April

GSM operators added 2.93 million subscribers during April, taking the overall subscriber base to 72.12 million. The subscriber base stood at about 69.2 million as on March.

According to the latest subscriber data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Bharti Airtel Ltd added 1.1 million GSM subscribers in April, while BSNL added 0.43 million and Hutch added 0.7 million subscribers.

Highest growth

Among all circles, Category C circles continued to witness the highest growth at 7.2 per cent, followed by Category A circles at 4.6 per cent and Category B circles at 4.5 per cent.

The total subscriber numbers for Category A circles was at 25.44 million, for Category B at 23.73 million, metros at 16.21 million and Category C at 6.72 million users, it said.

Within the Category C circles, the highest growth was recorded by the North-East Circle (14.3 per cent) and Assam Circle (13.8 per cent). In category A circles, Gujarat e led with growth of 5.9 per cent, followed by Tamil Nadu at 5.6 per cent.
