Thiruvananthapuram , May 9

The public sector Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) has registered a 30 per cent growth in turnover in the year ended March 31, 2006.

The net turnover during the year was Rs 110 crore against Rs 82.51 crore in the previous year.

Mr V. Ramkumar, Managing Director, said that without considering the old liabilities that are being settled under one-time settlement by the State Government, the company had generated a surplus of Rs 12.5 crore during the year. The cash profit in 2004-05 was Rs 8.40 crore.

The five fully owned subsidiaries of Keltron at Kannur and Kuttipuram, which are engaged in the manufacture of electronic components, logged a turnover of Rs 35 crore during the year under review, taking the group turnover to Rs 145 crore.

Mr Ramkumar said that out of the Rs 110 crore turnover of the holding company, 40 per cent came from information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services, while 25 per cent was from defence project activities.

The company has set a turnover target of Rs 132 crore for the current year towards which it has orders worth Rs 54 crore in hand. The thrust areas for the year will continue to be IT and IT-enabled services and defence project activities.

Mr Ramkumar said that Keltron IT Education, which started with corporate training and lower-end courses in 1997, is now focusing more on higher-end advance programming and animation.

The company will introduce more courses in the current year and discussions are on for starting short-term computer courses in the Gulf countries. He said that following the successful implementation of the online electoral photo ID cards system in Kerala and other parts of the country, Keltron has taken up voter card projects in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

In Kerala, the company has installed touch screen kiosks in all 14 districts and 64 taluk headquarters. Besides, it is addressing the e-governance needs and smart ID cards in other business segments, said Mr Ramkumar.
