Sweet hazard

THE KERALA HEALTH Department's mobile vigilance squad has detected high doses of tartrazin, a colouring agent, in samples of several sweetmeat items and banana chips in different cities. The chemical, which enhances the yellow colour in food items, causes stomach disorders in high doses.
