Veta plans to increase coaching centres

Nina Varghese

Chennai , May 10

The number of people wanting to learn English are doubling year on year, says Mr K.V. Rajan, Executive Director, Amoha Education (P) Ltd (the company that owns the Veta brand- the academy for spoken English).

The demand for fluent English speakers in the job market has fuelled the growth of institutes and individuals. The market currently is about Rs 1,500 crore with a large unorganised component.

Mr V. Rajagopalan, Chairman and Principal, Amoha Education, started Veta as he felt that there was need to teach people to speak fluently in English. Many people would have learnt English for 10 to 12 years but still find it difficult to converse in English. The inability to express themselves in English has hampered their careers, Mr Rajan said.

The company currently has 80 direct coaching centres with plans to increase it to 300 by 2009. Veta has a presence in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and West Bengal.

The expansion would be through the franchisee route and the investment into each centre would range from Rs 10-20 crore, he said. Courses are available at various levels from basic right up to the IELTS and TOEFL preparation course.
