CCEA nod for DD, AIR services

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a proposal for implementation of Phase-II of special package for improvement of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan services in North East region (including Sikkim) and Island territories at a total estimated cost of Rs 409.17 crore (AIR-Rs 143.32 crore and DD-Rs 265.85 crore). An ex-post-facto approval for the expenditure incurred during the financial year 2005-06 was also given by the CCEA. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, told newspersons that the implementation of the package would lead to increased coverage of DD and AIR both in terms of area and population in the North-East region and island territories.
