FMs in contrast

At the recent Asian Development Bank (ADB) meet in Hyderabad, one saw contrasting approaches between the Master of Ceremonies — the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, and the host Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah. While the savvy, reform-oriented Mr Chidambaram was bullish on sourcing external funds, especially from the ADB, to accelerate India's growth story, the politician and vintage businessman Mr Rosaiah was all cautious.

Mr Chidambaram said that India being a big borrower from the ADB is not a sign of weakness any longer. No wonder, the ADB chief was quick to grab the opportunity and respond by doubling the line of credit to India in the next three years.
