Oilseeds & Edible Oil Rice bran oil meet to create health awareness Our Bureau
Mumbai , May 11 The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) is organising the 9th National Seminar on Rice Bran Oil (RBO) in Mumbai on May 27, followed by a special presentation to cardiologists, doctors, nutritionists, dieticians and media the next day to create awareness about the health benefits of this oil. The theme of the seminar is "Consumer Awareness on Health & Nutritional Advantages of Rice Bran Oil", according to an SEA release. Many associations and institutes have supported the seminar. The SEA is expecting over 300 delegates from all over the country and abroad to participate in the seminar. India ranks second in production of rice in the world and has a potential to produce about 12 lakh tonne of rice bran oil but currently produces only 7 lakh tonne of oil per annum. Out of this, hardly 1.5 lakh tonne is used for direct human consumption as refined rice bran oil and rest is used for blending and vanaspati.
