Diversification Industry & Economy - Infrastructure States - Other States DS Group to expand hospitality vertical; foray into infrastructure Deepak Goel
New Delhi , May 11 Food and Beverage major DS Group is expanding its hospitality business across the country and looking at infrastructure projects in the North-East. It has identified hotel sites in six cities Jaipur, Udaipur, Shimla, Gurgaon, Kolkata and "one in South India". The group currently owns and runs a resort in Nainital. While the hotels in the metros would be bigger with a five-star stature, the ones at hill stations and tourist places would be smaller with 60-65 rooms. "We will manage our own hotels in tourist places, but for management of our hotels in metros we will forge alliance with international hotel chains," said Mr Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director, DS Group. The group is also looking at developing three infrastructure projects in the North-East. The first is constructing a 61-km-long road from Jorabat to Shillong on National Highway 40. The second one is generating power. "We are talking to the Assam Government for power generation in the State 150 MW," said Mr Kumar. The group is also looking at the business of power transmission in Tripura, with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation setting up a power generation plant in the State. Mr Kumar also revealed that a new variant of the mouth-freshener Pass-Pass would be launched in the next two months. The group is also test-marketing a range of snacks that includes roasted and salted cashews, pistachios and grams that would be " launched soon in the metros" under the Catch brand, said Mr Kumar.
