Shipping Productivity at Rajiv Gandhi box terminal up Our Bureau
Kochi , May 11 Productivity at the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal (RGCT)has been showing an upward trend since being operated by the India Gateway Terminal. While the productivity was less than 9 gross moves per hour prior to April 2005, the performance in April this year was 14 gross moves per hour. This is despite the difficult vessels that RGCT gets to operate. According to the press release, the vessel Kota Teraju completed 131 vessel moves in 6.33 hours on May 4 and 5 with one quay crane averaging 20.79 gross moves per hour. The vessel Green Space completed 281 vessel moves in 10 hours on May 6 and 7 with two quay cranes averaging 18.12 gross moves per hour per crane. The vessel Kripa completed 710 vessel moves in 18.25 hours on May 7 and 8 with two quay cranes averaging 19.90 gross moves per hour per crane. MV OEL Peace completed 336 moves in the third shift on May 10 and 11 with two quay cranes averaging 21 gross moves per hour per crane. With better vessels to work with and larger parcel sizes, the productivity of the container terminal is bound to improve and scale new heights.
