Our Bureau

New Delhi, May 10

The Labour and Employment Minister, Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao, on Wednesday called for effective implementation of the Minimum Wages Act. Inaugurating a conference of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) and Regional Labour Commissioners (Central) here, Mr Rao said the officers must ensure that no worker was paid less than the minimum wages fixed by the Central/State Governments.

He said that the Central Industrial Relations Machinery officers had a great responsibility in ensuring harmonious industrial relations and securingcompliance of the labour laws. He said that in view of the changing economic scenario, these officers would have to rise above their conventional role and act as pro-active facilitators, advisors and guide to employers, trade unions and workers.
