Chennai, May 14

The National Confederation of Small Industry (NACOSI) has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to appoint a high-power committee with representation from the industry to address the problems plaguing the sector. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, congratulating him on assuming office, NACOSI's President, Mr DE Ramakrishnan, recalled the efforts taken by Mr Karunanidhi to establish a separate undertaking for the small-scale sector and forming industrial estates for these units. However, many of these initiatives were languishing now, he said. Mr Ramakrishnan wanted immediate steps to be taken to revive the small and tiny enterprises in the State.
