TN Govt appoints new Chief Secy, DGP

Mr L.K. Tripathy, a 1971 batch IAS officer, has taken over as Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu.

He succeeds Mr N. Narayanan, who took over as Chief Secretary in May 2005.

Mr Narayanan, who belongs to the 1970 batch of the IAS, has been posted as Principal Commissioner of Archives and Historical Research.

The DMK Government has also changed the Director-General of Police (DGP).

Mr D. Mukherjee, now with the CBI in Delhi, has been posted as DGP, replacing Mr A.X. Alexander, who has been transferred as Special Officer, Tamil Nadu Police Academy.

The 13th Legislative Assembly will meet on May 17, when the temporary Speaker, Mr D. Sudarsanam, a Congress member, will administer the oath to the newly elected members.

The election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker is slated for May 19. The Governor, Mr S.S. Barnala, is scheduled to address the House on May 24.

It is expected that this session will last for a week. The DMK Government is expected to present its first Budget in June.
