Our Bureau

Bangalore, May 14

Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger is now available for download. This Instant Messenger (IM) is the next generation of MSN Messenger, which had 230 million users worldwide, said the report issued by the company. IM software are used for chatting over Internet. The new software also enables PC-to-phone calling with Windows Live Call. With this, users can dial affordable, outbound local as well as domestic or international long-distance voice calls over the Internet. Calls can be made to the US, the UK, Germany, France and Spain. Soon, the company plans to bring out the IM service in localised languages. Also, cordless phones designed exclusively for Windows Live Messenger will be available from Uniden Corp. and Philips. Another important feature that was missing in the older service is the Offline instant message. Users can now send an IM to their offline contacts who will receive the IM the next time they log in. To keep up with competition, Microsoft has introduced video, powered by Logitech International SA.
