Chennai , May 17

Nippon Audiotronix, a Delhi-based company that deals in car audios, security systems, monitors and navigation devices, plans to set up a new plant for manufacturing car audios.

Mr K.S. Goindi, Managing Director, Nippon Audiotronix, said that currently the company manufactures 12,000 car stereos per month, which would double with this new plant. The investment would be about Rs 25 crore. The location for the new plant is likely to be Delhi, while Chennai and Pune have also been considered, he said.

The company, which has a turnover of Rs 152 crore, has set a target of Rs 200 crore for the next year.

Mr Goindi said that in the car audio segment, the company supplies Kenwood range of car audios and has a 60 per cent market share of the original equipment manufacturersegment.

Mr Goindi was speaking to presspersons at the launch of the company's in-vehicle navigation device `Nippon SatGuide' in Chennai.

The product has been launched in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Chennai, Bangalore and Pune are on the second phase of the rollout. Mr Goindi said that the target is ten cities by the end of this year.

The product has been developed in association with SatNav Technologies Ltd, a Hyderabad-based information technology company. This touch screen navigation device will help drivers navigate to any location without taking their eyes off the road and their hands off the wheel. The device is built in with a database of important places, emergency services and landmarks.

An all-India highway navigation system, which would contain data of all the national highways, will be ready by the end of the year. This handheld device priced at Rs 37,990 uses GPS technology and can be used as a pocket PC. Since the device comes with the latest Windows Mobile 2003 SE operating system, one can create workbooks and documents using pocket excel as well as watch a movie or listen to music, Mr Goindi said.
