The Hindu Business Line : Berger launches Galaxy, a do-it-yourself kit

Berger Paints India Ltd has launched "Galaxy", a do-it-yourself kit, for the first time in the country. "We've just launched Galaxy in the Kolkata market, with plans to launch it in other parts of the country shortly," said Mr Subir Bose, Managing Director of the company, introducing the product on Wednesday.

"Our next targets are Gujarat, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai and we propose to cover the entire country by June-end," said Mr Abhijit Roy, Senior General Manager (Marketing) of the company.

Galaxy's blister pack contains a sachet of magic solution, paper-cuts and brush, such that any one can prepare the paint and actually decorate the ceiling. "Galaxy, with its glow in the dark, all-pervasive universe, galaxy of stars, moons, milky ways and comets, will especially appeal to children who are increasingly becoming opinion leaders in brand selection," Mr Bose said, adding, "Galaxy really allows a child to bring to life his imagination of night sky on the ceiling of his room."

A Galaxy pack will cost Rs 800 and cover 250 sq ft.

The do-it-yourself segment in the paint industry, as Mr Bose said, had not been properly tapped in our country, unlike western countries. "With Galaxy, we enter into this segment for the first time and we hope to bring more such products in due course," he added.
