Collaboration applications for mobiles

Our Bureau

Bangalore, May 17

Latest collaboration applications for mobiles are being developed at Microsoft's India Development Center (MIDC) at Hyderabad. The unified communications client created, `Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile', lets users connect using different available media such as instant messaging, VoIP (Voice over IP routes phone calls over the Internet, thus reducing communication costs) in real time. The client also brings presence awareness, with which the availability of a contact in the phone book can be verified. This application was recently unveiled at 3GSM conference in Spain and is based on the user interface of the Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 desktop client. The project was conceived in the beginning of 2005, and the first version was released in a year's time. The development process included getting feedback from usage within Microsoft, Beta users outside Microsoft, and TAP (Technology Adoption Program) partners.
