New Delhi , May 17

A decision on whether the screening of the controversial film, The Da Vinci Code, should be allowed in theatres across the country is expected either on Thursday or latest by Friday morning, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr P.R. Dasmunsi, said here on Wednesday.

"The views of various communities will be communicated to us by noon on Thursday. These will be passed on to the film censor board that would take a decision. No decision will be taken by the Ministry or the Minister," Mr Dasmunsi told newspersons after viewing the film. The special screening of the film was also witnessed by members of the Catholic church and senior officials of the Ministry. The special screening was arranged as several organisations, mostly representing the Catholic church, had urged the Minister to see the film before allowing it to be released in halls here.

The Minister added that as a movie production and a work of fiction, the film was "OK," when asked for his personal opinion about the film.
