Service tax collections rise 62.83%

New Delhi, May 17

Service tax collections of the Centre increased by 62.83 per cent during financial year 2005-06 to touch Rs 23,115.46 crore compared with Rs 14,196.39 crore recorded during the previous fiscal. An official release said service tax collections in March 2006 increased by 45.25 per cent to Rs 4,866.03 crore (Rs 3,350.19 crore). The revised estimate for service tax collections for fiscal year 2005-06 stood at Rs 23,000 crore.
