Hyderabad, May 17

Launching Gladiator, the 125-cc four-stroke executive bike in the Andhra Pradesh market, Yamaha on Wednesday hinted at the launch of two more bikes and possibly one of them in the 150-cc category. Targeting youth, particularly those in their 20's, and moving on from 100 cc bikes to executive segments, Yamaha launched their latest offering in 10 Downing Street, a pub in the city. The Gladiator is available in two variants priced at Rs 41,990 and Rs 44,990. The Regional Business Head, Yamaha Motor India, Mr Nagarajan Srikant, said that Andhra Pradesh now accounts for about 7 per cent share for Yamaha and by 2007, this will be ramped up to 15 per cent with more new models. Of the 48,000 bikes it markets in the State, about 7,000 would be Gladiators. The company now accounts for about 5 per cent market share in the bike segment and expects to grow this to about 12 per cent by 2006.
