Pitroda incognito

Mr Sam Pitroda

The Knowledge Commission Chairman, Mr Sam Pitroda, is a man much in demand these days. With the Commission giving a six-two verdict against reservations in institutions of higher learning, there has been a stampede to get Mr Pitroda. "I simply don't have the time,'' is his standard reply.

But Mr Pitroda had something to say about the ingenuity of fellow Indians. He told the delegates at a conference in Delhi that when he woke up that morning, he had had 70 calls at the hotel's board number for him. What's so great about that everyone thought, till Mr Pitroda added that he had checked in under another name! "But still they found out. That is India," he said. He, of course, did not disclose why he had to hide his identity.
