Brands come calling by the day to the Garden City and Nautica, a leading global lifestyle apparel brand didn't lose much time to catch up with the race to get a strong foothold in India through Bangalore.

Though Nautica opened its first destination store here today, it was looking for two more points of distribution in the brand-conscious Bangalore either as a shop-in-shop concept or another stand-alone premium brand store.

Stating that it was the largest standalone store outside the US, Ms Denise E Seegal, President and Chief Executive Officer of VF Sportswear Inc. (Nautica), said the store with over 6,000 sq. ft space has been designed to capture the brand's concept of "timeless and evolutionary in scope to reflect lifestyle energy, activities and fitness".

Delhi is to catch up with Nautica in a day or two while Chennai would sport the brand marquee during the third quarter of this calendar. Nautica was launched by Arvind Mills, which has been responsible for introducing several international brands including the heritage denim brands like Wrangler and Lee of Nautical parent company VF Corporation.

Ms Seegal told Business Line that India was a key strategic growth focus for the company. Asia and Europe were fast growing regions. Nautica also plans to unveil its whole range of products later this year. This includes lifestyle accessories of apparels such as eyewear, footwear, watch and home furnishing products.

Sourcing plan

While ruling out any immediate plans for India for sourcing for either design or raw materials, Ms Seegal, however, said "anything is possible... depending on business demand and consumer's requirements".

Mr Darshan Mehta, President of Arvind Brands Ltd, said the large format brand outlet was the result of the strong brand consciousness of the people and Bangalore was fast emerging as a hotbed of large format destination outlets for leading international brands.

Arvind Brands plans to open 12 Nautica stores in India in the next three years and said the brand would be an `additional magic' to the premium Indian consumers, he said.
